Often times our clients approach us with a tight deadline, we need to work as an extension of their own engineering teams, something we are quite good at when needed to meet tight engineering deadlines.

Our client approached us looking for support to prepare and mobilise its vessel for cable installation operations. We performed an optioneering study, addressed defects, verification, stability checks, a grillage summary, design and verification of the foundation and seafastening and ongoing project support.

The background

Following a successful contract award, our Tier 1 client required full engineering support to prepare and mobilise its vessel for cable installation operations.  This involved the upgrade of equipment, extra strengthening and operability analysis whilst providing assurance to DNV conditions of class.

The process

  • Optioneering study to accommodate additional load in the carousel with the aim of trying to avoid fitting additional steelwork to the ship due to difficulties in accessing under deck space;
  • Addressing weld defects, and verifying remedial bracket installation;
  • Underdeck suitability checks and subsequent strengthening to allow carousel and umbilical / lift winches and closeout of DNV conditions of class;
  • Grillage survey (A-frame stools, lift and umbilical winch bases and loading tower support) in order to assess condition of steelwork, identify corrosion and any obvious changes from drawings;
  • Design and verification of the foundation and seafastening required to install a new winch; and
  • Ongoing project support in the lead up to vessel mobilization.

Due to a late contract award, our client needed to meet challenging and tight timescales, which meant that they needed to rely on an engineering company that would act as a technical extension of their own team.
