We’re delighted to be hosting the next IChemE North Scotland Member Group event at our Aberdeen office.

This is the group’s first in-person session in some time, and the focus is on Asset Life Extension and Pressure Relief – a key topic for engineers managing ageing infrastructure and evolving safety requirements.

🗓️ Thursday 8 May 2025
🕧 12:30–13:30
📍 Apollo, Prince Arthur House, 10 Queen’s Terrace, Aberdeen AB10 1XL
💻 Hybrid format — in-person or online via Teams
🎟️ Free to attend

What’s on the agenda?

Two speakers from TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services will lead the session:

Asset Life Extension, Late Life Operations, Sustainability and Energy Transition

Jon Cook, Principal Consultant
As plants come towards the end of their design life an asset life assessment is vital to identify the investment required to maintain asset integrity, up-time and sustain present operating performance. This is particularly relevant as many facilities are being modified and repurposed to support energy transition and their net zero road map. This presentation will provide insights and case studies on how operators are:
– Reducing the invasiveness and operating costs of maintenance and interventions
– Transitioning to Sustainable Asset Life extension, maintaining safe operations
– Mitigating their CO2 footprint, energy costs and net zero strategies within extended life

Pressure Relief: Seven Deadly Sins

Steven King, Process Engineering Manager
The importance of ensuring your offshore and onshore pressure systems are adequately safeguarded will be highlighted. From offshore facilities, oil refineries to chemical plants, equipment vulnerability to pressure fluctuations can lead to catastrophic consequences if not managed effectively. The presentation will highlight and discuss the 7 most common pitfalls in pressure relief system design and operation. Steven King has extensive experience on design and validation of over-pressure protective systems and is a course presenter on the IChemE approved Pressure Relief Course.
