The John O’Groats to Lands’ End virtual race

At the beginning of November, Apollo launched a 6-week Challenge, the John O’Groats to Lands’ End virtual race.

The company was split into teams and each team has been tasked with travelling from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

The journey is a total of 2,500,000 steps, and to liven it up the teams are competing with each other for who can get there quickest!

This was designed as a voluntary break during our lunch hours to help promote mental and physical health through exercise. In addition, every time we exercise, Apollo donates to a charity.

The last few months have been uncertain for us all. Whether you’ve loved the new working arrangement or not, there are times when it has been a struggle mentally. As is well documented, a healthy body and mind helps us cope in such situations. Especially if you have gotten into a habit of sitting at your desk for 8 hours at a time without moving perhaps for more than a cup of tea or to quickly grab lunch!

We designed this competition to simply encourage our people to get out and break up the day for for their mental and physical health and of course to encourage a bit of healthy competition that we certainly had in the office previously with our squash ladder, football and events such as sponsoring The Apollo Duathlon at Run Balmoral and The Great Aberdeen run.

Keep an eye on our socials to the progress and which team finished first!
