This week we were delighted to support OEUK at the conference in Aberdeen “Electrification in the Making”.
This was the final instalment in the North Sea Platform Electrification Event Series which has looked in-depth at the opportunity in the basin to continue to produce oil and gas sustainably for decades to come.
Graeme Craib, Apollo’s Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Manager presented on the topic “Electrification – is it just supply and demand?”.
During this session, he acknowledged the high-level changes facing projects which are starting to progress, before diving into some of the specific issues we are seeing across our operator clients.
Whilst issues around consenting, grid access and commercial strategy need to be solved in short order, there are also other technical aspects around things such as lack of topside real estate, outdated control systems and general structural integrity issues which could be potential showstoppers to projects further down the line.
Apollo have already brought our unique blend of blue-sky, opportunity focused creative thinking to four electrification projects whilst ensuring that any recommendations are underpinned by technical and practical understanding of oil production.
We have been working on projects looking at shore to asset grid connection, floating offshore wind connection and a range of other technologies including wave energy to reduce the reliance on diesel generators,
