At Apollo, we’re proud of our team members’ journeys and growth, and Mario Bovero’s story is a prime example of what’s possible with dedication and opportunity.
From starting as a graduate to taking on a pivotal role as a project engineer in Denmark, Mario’s career trajectory highlights the strength of Apollo’s commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging innovation.
In this blog post, Mario shares insights into his experiences, the influence of Apollo’s culture, and the exciting prospects that lie ahead.
1. Mario, you started with Apollo as a graduate. Can you share some key experiences or projects that have shaped your career here?
The Floating Fuel Depot project was a fascinating job to be involved in as it comprised a variety of discipline inputs, allowing me to work alongside people of different technical backgrounds. Moreover, it allowed me to work on a project of a larger scope than I was accustomed to. I also greatly valued the push from management to get involved in public speaking, which has allowed me to succeed in something I wasn’t aware I would necessarily thrive in.
2. Your journey from a graduate to your current role in Denmark is impressive. Could you share the key opportunities at Apollo that have contributed to your professional growth and development and led to this milestone in your career?
The diverse range of projects I’ve been involved with at Apollo has been crucial to my growth as a project engineer. Apollo’s unique environment, with its variety of projects spanning different sizes and disciplines, has provided me with invaluable experience. This broad exposure has been instrumental in shaping my expertise and advancing my career to this milestone role in Denmark.
3. Apollo is known for its collaborative and innovative environment. Can you describe how this culture has influenced your work and career progression?
Apollo’s culture of collaboration and innovation has been important in my career development. Working closely with a diverse team has helped me solve problems creatively and learn quickly. This supportive environment has been essential for my career growth and progression.
I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to some amazing projects, from offshore renewables to carbon capture initiatives. The company’s commitment to staying ahead of industry trends has pushed me to think creatively and challenge the status quo.
Additionally, Apollo’s open-door policy means that ideas are always welcomed and valued, regardless of your position. This inclusivity has given me the confidence to share my thoughts and take the initiative and has moved my career forward, resulting in my current opportunity to be a part of a significant project in Denmark.”
4. What are you most excited about in your new role?
Two things excite me the most about this new role. The first is the novel nature of the project, being a greenfield offshore development. Something that is rarer nowadays and a technical challenge as it involves the re-thinking of how to develop this field effectively. The other is the chance to work with new people who will be coming from all different technical backgrounds which is a chance for me to absorb a lot of knowledge from decades of cumulative experience across different sectors.
5. Based on your journey, what advice would you give to new graduates who are considering a career at Apollo?
Be open to taking on opportunities that come your way when starting your first job in engineering. You might not use some of the learnings immediately but over time your knowledge base will build upon itself and open doors for you in the future. Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. For example, at first I was anxious to do public speaking but after presenting at my first conference, that gave me a huge boost of confidence in myself which has stayed with me ever since.
