We are proud to share that Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) has been selected as Apollo’s charity partner for the next 2 years.
The charity was selected following a company‑wide nomination and voting process led by Apollo’s Graduate Committee.
Mental health emerged as a strong theme throughout the nominations, with several colleagues sharing personal experiences that highlighted why supporting SAMH mattered to them. These stories reinforced just how significant accessible mental health support is, both in the workplace and across our communities.
Why Apollo chose SAMH as its charity partner
SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity, delivering mental health support, services and learning programmes across the country, including in the north‑east.
Its focus on accessible, practical support and raising awareness alongside service delivery strongly aligned with feedback shared during the nomination process and with the issues that mattered most to our people.
As part of the early stages of the partnership, Chris Docherty from SAMH (pictured with Apollo Graduate Engineer Rebecca Strachan, who is part of the Graduate Committee that led the charity selection process) visited Apollo to speak with staff about the charity’s work, the wider mental health landscape in Scotland and the role organisations can play in supporting mental wellbeing through awareness and engagement, as well as fundraising.
Learning more about local mental health support
The session also highlighted SAMH’s plans to open The Nook in Aberdeen, a walk‑in mental health and wellbeing hub based in Marischal Square.
Due to open this summer, The Nook will provide free, non‑clinical, stigma‑free support to adults, young people and families seven days a week, without the need for appointments or referrals.
Aberdeen will be home to the second Nook, following the first opening in Glasgow last year, as part of a wider Scotland‑wide network that will see further Nooks launched over the coming years.
Supporting mental health at Apollo
For Apollo, supporting mental health aligns closely with our values as a people‑led engineering and advisory business. Our work can be complex and demanding, and the wellbeing of our people underpins everything we do.
Alongside our partnership with SAMH, Apollo also has four trained Mental Health First Aiders within the business: Steve Leaper, Craig Shepherd, Chiara Massone and Richard Curtis. Their role forms part of our wider approach to supporting mental health and wellbeing across Apollo.
We look forward to sharing more over the coming months as our partnership with SAMH develops and as we work together to support mental health across our business and communities.
